Onam series: Kurukku Kalan curry

Onam series: Kurukku Kalan curry

Ingredients

  • Raw Bananas: 2 medium-sized
  • Yam: 200 grams
  • Sour Curd: 1 cup
  • Turmeric Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Grated Coconut: 1/2 cup
  • Cumin Seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green Chillies: 2, slit
  • Mustard Seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fenugreek Seeds: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves: A few sprigs
  • Coconut Oil: 2 tablespoons  
  • Water: As needed
  • Salt: To taste

 Instructions:

  • Boil the raw bananas , yam and green chilies until they are soft.
  • Mash them together to form a smooth mixture.
  • Beat sour curd well and add turmeric and chilli powder.
  • Combine the curd mixture with the mashed bananas and yam.
  • Cook this mixture on low heat until it thickens. Stir well to blend the flavors.
  • Take a jar of grinder. Add coconut , cumin seeds and water.
  • Grind coconut mix into smooth paste.
  • Add the coconut paste to the curry and mix thoroughly.
  • Allow the curry to simmer on low heat for a few minutes.
  • Heat coconut oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves for aromatic flavor.
